Existing breast screening and diagnostic technologies have clinical limitations.

Understanding transmission ultrasound.

The QT Scanner is a fixed, mechanical scanner used to evaluate the breast without the use of ionizing radiation or painful compression associated with mammography.  With the QT Scanner, the patient lies comfortably on a table which contains an opening through which the breast is placed in a warm water bath and gently immobilized using a magnetic retention pad to a magnetic rod. Surrounding the warm water bath is an ultrasound armature that rotates 360 degrees around the breast to produce 3D images. Handheld ultrasound uses reflection data of sound waves to produce images, but the QT Scanner differs in that it utilizes reflection and transmission data from sound waves, providing a significant increase in diagnostic information using the speed of sound characteristics of the breast and generating a true 3D rendering of the breast tissue. The scanner provides sub-millimeter image resolution enabling identification of normal and abnormal breast structures and the accurate depiction of the precise shape and location of findings. The technology uniquely quantifies breast density using transmission information to further personalize a patient’s management recommendations. Surface-to-volume ratios and volumetric doubling time growth rate characteristics can be calculated to determine significance of lesions and improve specificity of the ultrasound. The scanner will also be capable of identifying microcalcifications, necessary in the diagnosis of early breast cancer.

The clearest picture is our greatest asset.

Dense breasts are common. Changes to breast tissue due to aging is normal. Even cysts are typical. When we have images that show clear information about breast tissue, we can identify what is benign, and what’s problematic. Our technology is moving us closer to understanding the difference, and our clinical trials are designed to confirm how this new technology can make unnecessary callbacks a thing of the past.

 
For every 1 woman with cancer - 500 will be told they might have cancer when they don’t. 80 will receive a biopsy when nothing is wrong. 10 will receive unnecessary treatment beyond a biopsy.
